The new luxury lifestyle cruise operator, Explora Journeys, has announced its flagship vessel, Explora I, has completed its sea trials.
Explora I, the first of six ships planned for Explora Journeys, has been under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, since June 2021. Following its sea trials, the vessel returned to the shipyard for a series of final preparations before its 15-night maiden voyage from Southampton to Copenhagen on 17 July.
Commenting on the news, Explora Journeys’ CEO, Michael Ungerer, said:

Sea trials are a vital stage in the ship-building process and give the builders and stakeholders the first opportunity to run the rule over a new vessel’s seaworthiness. Principally, those involved want to ensure that the ship’s performance meets its intention while also checking fuel consumption stability and the onboard navigation software. Furthermore, sea trials provide a much safer environment for testing should any unexpected issues arise.
The impending debut of Explora I is causing much excitement in the cruise industry, with many interested to see how Explora Journeys’ “Ocean State of Mind” is conveyed in terms of hardware and onboard experience. Across 14 decks, Explora I will offer unrivalled space at sea, with the highest guest-to-space ratios in the luxury ocean category, beautiful ‘ocean front’ accommodation, 11 dining experiences and a 425 sq. ft. Wellness Centre.
