- Galapagos in style: Celebrity Flora vs. ultra-luxury expedition vessels

How do luxury Galapagos cruises differ from standard ones?
Every Galapagos ship follows the same rules. The Galapagos National Park Directorate approves each vessel, and none carries more than 100 guests. Certified naturalists lead every landing, so you see the same wildlife whichever ship you choose. The difference lies in how you spend the hours in between.
Standard expedition ships keep things simple and adventurous. Santa Cruz II, for example, carries 90 guests and offers a classic expedition feel, with bright, functional interiors. Luxury ships go further:

- Suites: Luxury ships offer all-suite accommodation, often with a private veranda.
- Service: Silver Origin gives every suite a butler, while Celebrity Flora assigns attendants to look after each suite.
- Dining: Curated menus and 24-hour room service raise the standard.
- Inclusions: Drinks, Wi-Fi and expedition gear come in the fare, so you spend less onboard.
Our guide to choosing the right ship for your Galapagos cruise compares every option in detail.
Celebrity Flora Galapagos: what to expect onboard
Celebrity Flora launched in 2019, and she brings a modern, yacht-like feel to the islands. All 100 guests stay in suites, and suites start at 325 sq ft. The most popular category has an infinite veranda. Its balcony railing lowers at the touch of a button, so the room opens to the outdoors.
Meals take place in the Seaside Restaurant, which serves Ecuadorian-influenced menus, while the Ocean Grill offers a more casual option. Afterwards, you can stargaze from the deck or unwind in The Vista lounge. Better still, you can spend a night glamping on the top deck under the stars.

Celebrity Cruises Galapagos: what's included?
The fare covers more than you might expect:
- Drinks and dining: Meals, room service, select wines, spirits and soft drinks all come included.
- Wi-Fi and gratuities: Both sit inside the fare.
- Expedition kit: Snorkel gear, mini-wetsuits and binoculars come with your voyage.
- Park fees and transfers: National Park admission, the Tourist Card and Baltra airport transfers all come included.
Flights, spa treatments and laundry cost extra. Inclusions can vary by suite grade and offer, so ask us to confirm before you book.

Silver Origin Galapagos: the ultra-luxury benchmark
Silver Origin launched in the Galapagos in 2020, and our guide calls her the most luxurious ship operating there today. She carries up to 100 guests, and every suite comes with a veranda and butler service. In addition, her crew-to-guest ratio sits close to one-to-one, which is the highest in the islands.
Interiors feel calm and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows and Ecuadorian-inspired art. At The Grill, lunch turns into a Hot Rocks barbecue by night. Meanwhile, naturalists host talks in the Explorer Lounge and recap each day in Basecamp. Eight Zodiacs take you ashore, so landings never feel rushed.
The fare includes select wines, premium spirits, soft drinks and Wi-Fi, plus expedition gear such as a waterproof backpack and raincoat. A 7-night round trip from San Cristobal on 29 May 2027 starts from £10,849 per person, though prices change. Guests tend to skew older, so expect a steady pace on excursions.

What does a day on a luxury Galapagos ship look like?
Luxury does not mean lounging all day. Expect an early start, because guided expeditions run twice daily on Flora. Naturalists lead small groups ashore by Zodiac, so you meet giant tortoises, sea lions and marine iguanas up close. Afterwards, you can snorkel with turtles or hike a volcanic trail.
Silver Origin rates her hikes by difficulty, so you can choose a gentler Zodiac ride when you prefer. Back onboard, naturalists recap the day over cocktails, and dinner follows. Then, if you still have energy, you can head to the deck for stargazing.
How does a Celebrity Cruises Galapagos trip compare to other cruise options?
Both ships suit travellers who want comfort without losing the expedition. Even so, the details differ.

Suites and space
Flora’s infinite veranda opens the whole suite to the view. Her suites range from 325 sq ft to 1,288 sq ft in the Penthouse. Origin’s ocean-view suites focus on service instead, with a butler for every guest.

Service and dining
Origin leans towards personal service, because each suite has a butler. Flora offers a lighter touch, with attendants and a relaxed, yacht-style feel. Dining follows the same pattern. Flora keeps two relaxed venues, while Origin adds Hot Rocks dining and chef-led menus.

Smaller expedition ships
Smaller vessels offer a different kind of intimacy. National Geographic Islander II carries 48 guests in all-suite comfort, with kayaks and paddleboards. Aqua Mare and National Geographic Delfina carry just 16 guests each. Aqua Mare also has some of the largest suites in the Galapagos. Our guide to the best expedition cruise lines in 2026 covers these brands.
Which should you choose?
Pick Celebrity Flora for modern design, the infinite veranda and a yacht-like atmosphere. Choose Silver Origin if you want a butler and the highest level of service. Prefer fewer guests on shore? A smaller ship will suit you better.
Season matters too. June to September brings cooler seas and strong marine life sightings, while December to March brings warmer weather and lush landscapes, ideal for birdwatching. The Galapagos works all year, so you can match your trip to the wildlife you most want to see.
