Viking River Cruises Sets New Record
Viking unveil 10 new stunning river cruise ships
Viking River Cruises has set a new world record this week with the christening of ten new vessels. All ten Viking Longships were christened simultaneously in a spectacular ceremony in Amsterdam. The event was certified officially by a Guinness World Records adjudicator as the ‘The Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company.’
The ten new 443ft long ships - Viking Aegir, Viking Atla, Viking Bragi, Viking Embla, Viking Forseti, Viking Jarl, Viking Rinda, Viking Skadi, Viking Tor and Viking Var – will each carry 190 passengers, and will be officially be launched at their maiden voyages throughout the coming months.
Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking River Cruises, was delighted at the occasion. “Today is a proud day for Viking and for river cruising,” He said. “We are honoured to showcase ten of our revolutionary new Longships and to have had such a celebrated group of women helping us christen them”.
Each of the ten godmothers were chosen as distinguished women from all over the world, who represent the crucial Viking attributed with a focus on history, art, education, exploration and discovery.
Award Winning Viking River Cruises
The Viking expansion is a clear indicator of the growing popularity of the river cruise market, as well as of the company itself, which was named in 2012 as the Best New River Ships in the Cruise Critic’s Editors’ Picks Awards. The new expansion is due to be continued in 2014, with a further 24 new Viking Longships set to be launched.
