Viking River Cruises Expands its Fleet for 2012
Viking River Cruises will be adding six new ships to its fleet for 2012. Viking has recently announced they will be adding an additional two ships, Viking Embla and Viking Aegir, to their four scheduled for next year’s sailings, Viking Freya, Viking Idun, Viking Njord and Viking Odin .
The move comes due to a surge in Viking European bookings for 2012 & 2013, illustrating the increasing popularity of river cruising as Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking River Cruises states;
“Ever since we announced the introduction of the Viking Longships earlier this year, the response has been overwhelming. To accommodate the demand, we have decided to accelerate the new builds schedule and bring two more Viking Longships into the fleet in 2012.”
The six state-of-the-art Longships will be 443 feet in length and hold 95 staterooms. The vessels will feature alfresco dining, all weather indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace and boast the largest river cruise suites in Europe.
The vessels will debut next summer on Vikings most popular European itineraries including 8-day Romantic Danube, 10-day Tulip & Windmill, 8-day Danube Waltz, 8-day Rhine Getaway and 15-day Grand European Tour.
