Privately owned by the Nicholson family since 1937, the Shiant Isles are geologically outliers of Skye, with basalt rock formations reminiscent of Staffa and the Giant's Causeway, home to thousands of sea birds. Haunted in myth by kelpies, the islands are famous for wildlife – common seals, basking sharks, colonies of puffins, herring gulls, oyster catchers, eiders, shags and many more.
