The port of Maizuru has long been renowned as a naval port, in part due to its close proximity to the Sea of Japan.
One of the best times of year to visit Maizuru is during October when the local residents celebrate their sea-faring professions with market stalls, auctions and events. If visiting during other months, it is worth visiting the Kinkaku-ji Temple a beautiful piece of ornate architecture, which nestles amongst a lush green background of manicured gardens and shrubbery.
