Kauai Cruises

The port of Kauai is in Nawiliwili Bay, just outside of Lihue, which is the main town on Kauai. The island has forty-three beaches, more per square mile than any of the other islands. Less than half a mile away is Kalapaki Beach, where there is The Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club and two shopping centres. Kauai is home to the breathtaking Na Pali coastline, Mount Waialeale, and the Waimea Canyon. There is the option to hike around these landmarks, or to appreciate them by air. Sport Fishing is very popular from Kauai Harbour, and snorkel and dive trips are also available. Just West of Kauau is the private island Niihau, with a population of around 250 people, it is renowned for not containing any of the trappings of modern society and retaining its pure Hawaiian culture.

Kauai is the oldest of the eight major Hawaiian Islands, with volcanic rock dating back 5.5 million years. It is believed to have been the first island to be inhabited, around 500 AD. Captain James Cook and his crew first landed in Hawaii on the west coast, at Waimea, in 1778.

Interestingly, to ensure that concrete never conceals Kauai’s natural beauty, a law has been passed to stipulate that no buildings can stand higher than a palm tree.
