The remotest inhabited island in the world, EASTER ISLAND was discovered on Easter Sunday by Johannes Roggeeveen, back in 1722. It was originally settled by Polynesians in the 4th century. The various tribes competed with each other by carving, transporting and erecting colossal statues called Moais – some weighing over 80 tons. With nearly two full days on the island, we have time to relax, explore the many religious sites, and confront the haunting Moai visages. Rapa Nui, as it is known locally, is a treasure house that has puzzled scientists and historians alike for generations.
