Bamberg Cruises
Bamberg, city (1994 pop. 70,770), Bavaria, S Germany, a port on the Regnitz River. It is an industrial and commercial center; its manufactures include textiles, electrical equipment, clothing, machinery, and beer. Bamberg was the capital of a powerful ecclesiastical state from 1007 to 1802. In 1803 it passed to Bavaria. Noteworthy buildings in the picturesque city include the cathedral (built mostly in the 13th cent.), which includes the tombs of Emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II; a Gothic church (14th cent.); and two episcopal residences (16th and 18th cent.). It is the seat of a Roman Catholic archbishopric and has a museum of natural history.
