Located on the western bay of the Mediterranean Sea, Algiers is Algeria's capital and largest city. Often referred to as ‘Algiers the White' (partly due to the striking white buildings that shimmer in the sunlight), Algiers has a rich and interesting history that is well worth exploring including the stunning Monument of the Martyrs, which was erected in the early 1980s to celebrate Algerian independence.
The port itself is host to many interesting buildings and architecture, making it a great cruise destination and an ideal stop off on any Africa cruise.
