Acajutla Cruises

Acajutla, a hot and somewhat run-down town is one of El Savador's main ports. There are some nice beaches to the west at Playa de Metalio and Playa Barra de Santiago. Lying about 50 miles from the capital El Salvador, Acajutla gives access to Chalchuapa and the Mayan ruins of Tazumal. The site was constructed over a period of 750 years but mostly from 600 to 900AD. Only two of the nine structures are in reasonable condition. The city was abandoned by the Mayans at the end of the 9th century and the Pipils moved in, constructing their pyramid from 900 to 1200AD.
