Explora Journeys Announces Plans for River Cruises

Explora Journeys has announced plans to expand into river cruising, bringing its luxury travel concept to some of Europe’s most iconic waterways.

The brand has signed a Letter of Intent with Dutch shipbuilder Den Breejen Shipyard to develop its first luxury river ships. Explora Journeys plans to open sales in 2027 and will share more details over the coming months.

A New Chapter for Explora Journeys

Explora Journeys launched in 2023 with a new approach to luxury ocean travel. Its Ocean State of Mind philosophy combines the freedom of travelling by sea with European hospitality, thoughtful design and a relaxed style of luxury.

Now, the brand plans to bring that same approach to Europe’s rivers.

Guests will have the opportunity to discover some of the continent’s most famous waterways while enjoying the style and service already associated with Explora Journeys.

The cruise line has not yet named the rivers or destinations in its first programme. However, it has confirmed plans to focus on some of Europe’s most iconic waterways.

New Luxury River Ships on the Way

Explora Journeys has chosen Den Breejen Shipyard in the Netherlands to develop its new river ships.

The brand has yet to reveal how many ships it plans to build. It also hasn’t shared details about their size, guest capacity, suites or onboard facilities.

Explora Journeys will reveal more about the ship designs, onboard experience, delivery dates and first itineraries in due course.

Sales will open in 2027, giving travellers their first opportunity to book a river journey with the brand.

Explora Journeys Continues to Grow

The move into river cruising comes during an exciting period of growth for Explora Journeys.

EXPLORA III joined the fleet in 2026 alongside EXPLORA I and EXPLORA II. The brand also has more ocean ships joining the fleet over the coming years.

River cruising will add another dimension to this growing collection. Rather than changing its focus at sea, Explora Journeys will give guests another way to experience its style of luxury travel.

The move also opens up new possibilities for travellers who already enjoy the Explora Journeys experience but want to discover Europe at a slower pace and closer to the heart of each destination.
