The beauty of Burma awaits – explore Myanmar with Ama Waterways in 2014

In November 2014 Ama Waterways will be launching a new river cruise programme aboard a brand new ship on Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady River and I wanted to tell you a little more about it in today’s blog.

The Ayeyarwady River or Irrawaddy River as it is also known, flows right through Burma from north to south and takes in some superb stops along the way. These include: Maubin, Zalon, Pyay, Minhla, Salay, Bagan, Yandabo, Mingun and Mandalay. The river is also sometimes referred to as ‘The Road to Mandalay’ after Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘Mandalay’ which was written in 1890 when the British poet was just 24-years old.

One of the world’s most secretive, mysterious and fascinating places, Myanmar has a unique centuries-old culture and offers spectacular architectural wonders. It’s fair to say one shall be left in awe at not only the natural beauty that this destination has to offer but the intrigue of its ancient history that will also capture your mind.

The Vessel – AmaPura

To sail this magnificent river, Ama Waterways shall introduce the custom designed 56-passenger AmaPura. The ship will be furnished with a combination of modern and traditional motifs and offer 28 spacious suites, all of which will feature either a French balcony, step-out full balcony or twin balconies. Suites will also be equipped with a well-appointed bathroom and other deluxe amenities including robe and slippers, electronic safe, spa-quality bath products and luxury linens.

The ship’s public spaces will include a spa, gift shop, swimming pool and sun deck, restaurant and a main lounge and bar area.

The main dining area will offer a superb selection of traditional western dishes as well as delicious regionally inspired cuisine which shall include rice dishes, meat, seafood, soup, fresh fruits and vegetables. After all, you will be exploring Asia so it’s only right you should sample the local cuisine too.
