Starting at the BBC as a reporter for The World at One, he eventually began presenting the programme and then went on to produce Checkpoint, an investigative programme that is credited for creating a new genre of broadcasting.
The famed The Cook Report went on to run for 16 series whilst he travelled tens of thousands of miles a year in pursuit of major criminals, con-men and corrupt officials, exposing the illicit ivory trade, illegal immigration, war criminals and terrorists. Cook has since continued to win 11 major national and international awards and a British Academy Special Award ‘For 25 years of outstanding quality investigative reporting’.
Voyage highlights include:
- Kolmanskop Ghost Town - Explore Namibia’s most well-known ghost town, just a few miles inland from Luderitz. After a “Diamond Rush” in 1908. Now a backdrop for many films, the town is an eerie insight into history. The ideal shore excursion with a difference.
- Horse Riding on Noordhoek Beach - Spend a morning horse riding along Noordhoek Beach in Cape Town from the base of Chapmans Peak to Kommetjie.
- Pink Lake Retba - Visit Lake Retba, 25 miles from Dakar in the Sahara Desert. The high mineral content gives the water a pink hue attracting large numbers of egrets, flamingos and spoonbills.
