Seven Seas Voyager To The Rescue
Luxury cruise ship aids rescue attempt
Regent’s Seven Seas Voyager recently came to the aid of a stricken yacht and its crew off the coast of New Zealand.
The luxury vessel was mid-cruise when it responded to the SOS calls coming from the Sea Wanderer which had reported a loss of navigation systems and engine failure. The Seven Seas Voyager, which was mid-cruise at the time en-route to Wellington, cut through the 50 knot winds and 7 metre swell to stand by the small sailboat until the emergency services arrived 30 minutes later.
Following a daring rescue attempt courtesy of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, all 3 of the Sea Wanderer’s passengers were airlifted to safety within 45 minutes. They are believed to have been travelling to nearby Christchurch when the challenging seas overcame their vessel.
A private recovery operation has since been co-ordinated to recover the Sea Wanderer, which was still afloat after its crew were rescued.
Throughout 2013 Regent Seven Seas is including flights, transfers and unlimited shore excursions on all their luxury voyages. Selected sailings also include pre-cruise hotel stays. For more information, please call one of our Cruise Experts on 0800 008 6677.
