Oceanwide Expeditions is one of the world's leading operators of expedition-style cruises in the Polar Regions. Sailing aboard a fleet of small, ice-strengthened ships, they offer a variety of immersive itineraries which make them the perfect choice if you wish to explore Antarctica or the Arctic.
Destinations and Expeditions
Operating "on the borderline of land and water", Oceanwide Expeditions have created an incredible collection of itineraries that have been designed in order to offer guests the very best experience in the Arctic or Antarctica. The Oceanwide Expeditions' fleet explore the North Atlantic and Arctic between May and September and Antarctica from November to March.
There are many voyages to choose from and our favourites include Ross Sea sailings in the southern Antarctica Peninsula, Northern Lights cruises in Spitsbergen and a stunning 37-day Atlantic Odyssey which visits several of the mid-Atlantic's most remote islands, including St Helena and Ascension Island.
Fleet, Excursions & Experiences
Exploration is at the forefront of every voyage with Oceanwide Expeditions. No matter which sailing you choose, or which destination you visit, there will be ample opportunity to experience these magnificent regions in great detail. Below are a few examples of what makes Oceanwide Expeditions stand-out against similar operators.
Oceanwide Expeditions' Fleet
Oceanwide Expeditions boasts a fleet of ice-strengthened vessels that is considered to be one of the finest operating in the modern era. Staffed by a highly professional crew who share the guest's enthusiasm and passion for exploration, all of Oceanwide Expedtions ships comply with the highest international safety standards and are therefore ideal for sailing Antarctica or the Arctic.
Enriching Experiences Ashore
Oceanwide Expeditions operate a varied and exciting programme of excursions and tours in the Polar Regions. These one-off experiences include trips to visit Robert Falcon Scott's cabin on Cape Evans, to landing by helicopter and then walking across the frozen Ross Ice Shelf.
Every excursion is meticulously planned and is led by qualified and experienced expedition guides who will be on-hand throughout your time ashore. On average, there are two landings per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon and more often than not in different locations.
One of the clearest advantages of choosing Oceanwide Expeditions is the size of the group you will be travelling with. During your time on land, the smaller numbers will allow you to enjoy a much more intimate experience than what you might have done with a larger operator.
Throughout your voyage, you will also be given the opportunity to enjoy a number of activities such as polar diving, kayaking, trekking and camping.
Close encounters with seldom-seen wildlife also plays an important part of the Oceanwide Expeditions' experience. The unique wildernesses of Antarctica and the Arctic are awash with an abundance of species both ashore and beneath the waves.
In Antarctica you will come close to Antarctica fur seals, chinstrap penguins and an array of distinctive birds in including the black-browed albatross and the giant petrel. You might even be lucky enough to witness the breaching of a blue whale or orca. Head to the Arctic and you may be presented with the opportunity to stand mere metres away from a magnificent polar bear, pass by a pod of hooded seals or see the regal Svaldbard reindeer.
