Crystal’s ‘You Care, We Care’ Program
In 2011 Crystal Cruises will be encouraging both crew and guests to give something back to different communities throughout the world, at some point during each of their cruises.
The cruise line will introduce a program to each of their 2011 cruises that will enable guests and staff to help out with a charitable project. The ‘You Care, We Care’ Programs are thought to create a more intimate connection with the destination and locals.
The programs will consist of a one day shore excursion during each of their 2011 cruises where a small number of guests and crew members will have the opportunity to volunteer, helping people less fortunate than themselves. Crystal Cruises will take care of all arrangements and costs and just hope that their guests will take advantage of the opportunities as they will be both educational and rewarding.
These special voluntourism projects have already been introduced to some voyages and include experiences such as:
· Arts and crafts with the children of the ANQUIEM Burns Rehabilitation Centre in Lima, Peru.
· Helping out with urban farming, crafts with the elderly and playing football with the children in Cartagena, Columbia.
· Assisting with neighbourhood and beach cleanup with the PEACE organisation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Some people have been concerned that the projects will not reflect the six star features that Crystal Cruises are known for. However, the experiences are presented as an opportunity to help others and will offer a rewarding and enriching contribution to a community in need.
The ‘You Care, We Care’ programs are part of Crystal Cruises commitment to the preservation of the ocean environment and the destinations their ships travel to every day.
