American Duchess is a 166-guest paddle wheeler offering cruises on the Mississippi and the Ohio River for The American Queen Steamboat Company.
Initially built in 1995, American Duchess underwent a full refurbishment in 2017 and is now considered one of the most elegant riverboats operating on the rivers of North America. The contemporary design of her interiors is unmistakably modern, yet still manages to convey a sense of Old World Charm, while her public areas are incredibly spacious for a vessel of her size.
American Duchess Suite Accommodation
American Duchess is an all-suite vessel, with guests offered a choice of five categories: Interior, Veranda, Deluxe, Loft and Owners. The smallest of these options is the Interior Suite (180 sq. ft) while the most eye-catching is the two-level Loft Suite (550 sq. ft) which features a semi-private bedroom on the second floor. The four largest suite categories on American Duchess boast a private balcony, while all offer with ample storage space, an entertainment centre and an en-suite bathroom complete with Willian Roam toiletries.
American Duchess Dining
The main restaurant on American Duchess is the Grand Dining Room which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner on an open-seating basis for all guests. Breakfast and lunch are mostly served buffet-style, while the evening meal is served course-by-course at your table. The cuisine served in the Grand Dining Room is a combination of international dishes and contemporary interpretations of American classics such as Mississippi catfish and New York steak.
The River Club & Terrace offers an alternative dining experience and available on a reservation-only basis. Breakfast and lunch are again buffet-style, while the evening meal is a choice of either a four-course set menu or one of the chef's daily specials.
There is also a cafe onboard, called Perks, as well as the option to dine in your suite courtesy of 24-hour room service.
American Duchess Entertainment & Facilities
During the day, entertainment on American Duchess is somewhat low-key with many guests choosing to leave the ship and explore ashore, courtesy of one of the many shore excursions available. However, there is an onboard speaker who gives daily lectures relating to the history and culture of the region you are visiting. The ship's Cruise Director will also lead a programme of activities, ranging from bingo to party-style games.
The Show Lounge is the hub for evening entertainment with Broadway -calibre shows from the ship's resident team as well as performances by local musicians. Alternatively, guests can also head to the beautiful two-story Great Lobby Bar which is open late for post-dinner drinks.
Other facilities on American Duchess include a fitness centre and a library, where you can choose to catch up on some reading or play one of the many board games available.
