Seabourn suite guide: Choosing the best ship layout and suite category
One of the most significant advantages of a Seabourn cruise is that every guest is accommodated in a suite. There are no "inside" cabins or small porthole rooms. However, choosing the right category and position on the ship can drastically change your experience, especially when navigating the subtle differences between the Odyssey-class ships (Odyssey, Sojourn, Quest) and the slightly larger Encore-class (Encore, Ovation). When we discuss Seabourn suites with our clients, we focus on the luxury of space. Every suite includes a walk-in wardrobe, a marble-clad bathroom with a separate bath and shower, and a private veranda in almost every category.Understanding Seabourn suite categories
While the decor across the fleet is consistent neutral tones, high-quality wood finishes, and refined textures, the layout and size vary significantly.

Veranda suites
These are the most popular choice and are essentially the standard on board. They offer roughly 28 to 33 square metres of indoor and outdoor space. For a first-time Seabourn cruiser, a Veranda suite in a mid-ship position is often the best choice for stability and ease of access to the main lounges. You can read a first-hand account of a Veranda suite experience in our Seabourn Ovation review.
Penthouse and Penthouse Spa suites
If you require a separate living area and bedroom, the Penthouse suites are the next step up. They feature a dining table for four and a larger veranda. The Penthouse Spa suites, located directly above the spa, include complimentary access to the thermal suite and are decorated with more organic wellness-themed materials.
Premium suites: Owner’s, Signature, and Wintergarden
These suites are the pinnacle of the Seabourn experience. The Wintergarden suites are particularly notable for their glass-enclosed solarium with a large soaking tub and daybed, a feature unique to Seabourn. These suites are often booked years in advance, especially for world cruises or milestone anniversaries.
Are smaller cruise ships worth it?
A common question we hear is whether the limited facilities of a smaller ship are worth the trade-off. For the Seabourn guest, the answer is almost always yes.

Access to “hidden” ports
Because Seabourn ships are smaller, carrying between 450 and 600 guests, they can dock in the heart of destinations that larger ships simply cannot reach. You can sail directly into the centre of Monte Carlo or navigate the narrow channels of the Norwegian fjords to reach tiny villages.
The ease of navigation
On a 3,000-guest ship, you might spend 15 minutes walking from your cabin to a restaurant. On a Seabourn ship, you are never more than a three-minute stroll from anywhere. This creates a sense of effortless living; you can pop back to your suite to grab a jacket or a book without it feeling like an expedition.

What to know about deck plans and ship navigation
Seabourn’s ship layouts are designed with a smart vertical design across the fleet. Generally, the lower decks are reserved for suites, while the upper decks house the public lounges, dining venues, and the pool.
Forward suites: These offer the most dramatic views, especially when entering a port, but you will feel more motion here in heavy seas.
Aft suites: These are highly sought after for their expansive views of the ship’s wake. However, they are the furthest from the main lobby and coffee bar.
Mid-ship suites: These provide the smoothest ride and are the most convenient for accessing the lifts and stairs.
On the Encore-class ships, the addition of an extra deck means there are more dining options, but the intimate yacht feel remains intact.
