Scenic Eclipse II review: what it's really like onboard
We recently stepped aboard Scenic Ocean Cruises' Scenic Eclipse II during her call in Tilbury, and she didn't disappoint. From the moment we stepped on board, the ship felt polished, considered, and genuinely luxurious in a way that's hard to fake. Our host Danny Joel walked us through the ship from top to bottom, and honestly, it's hard to find fault with any of it. Here's exactly what we saw, what stood out, and what you can expect if you book.
First impressions
The moment you step onboard, Scenic Eclipse II feels chic and beautifully put together. Staff greeted us warmly and offered drinks and canapés straight away, a lovely touch before we’d even started exploring.
Deck 4 opens onto the Scenic Lounge and Bar, and it’s a genuine showstopper. The bar stocks around 135 different whiskies, which says everything about the level of detail here. It’s the kind of space you’d happily settle into with a pre-dinner drink and lose track of time.
Dining across the ship
Scenic Eclipse II doesn’t do dining by halves. Elements serves Italian, steak and seafood from an à la carte menu, with premium wines matched to the daily selection. It’s relaxed enough for solo dining yet works just as well for a larger group.
KoKo’s brings Asian fusion to life, blending traditional ingredients with modern techniques. Guests can choose regular tables or sunken seating inspired by Japanese dining traditions. Within KoKo’s, the Night Market adds real theatre, with chefs crafting dishes inspired by street food from Asia, India and the Middle East right in front of you. Just eight guests join each Teppanyaki seating, making it one of the most exclusive experiences onboard. The Sushi & Sake Bar sits alongside it, where skilled chefs hand-make sushi, including vegan salmon and tuna options, for up to 18 guests.
For something more low-key, Azure Bar & Café serves pizzas, salads and barista coffee throughout the day, with indoor and outdoor terrace seating. The atmosphere here feels genuinely relaxed, perfect for watching the world go by with a coffee and a pastry.
Lumiere Restaurant & Champagne Bar rounds things off at the top end. Expect contemporary French cuisine, a pre-dinner glass of Champagne with caviar, and the option of a full degustation menu in an elegant, modern setting.
Suites and accommodation
Suites start with the Verandah, Deluxe and Grand Deluxe categories on Deck 5, and even the lead-in suites impress. Each features a separate sleep zone, a proper lounge area, and floor-to-ceiling doors opening onto a private verandah.
The Owner’s Penthouse on Deck 9 takes things further still, with a jacuzzi and generous open-plan outdoor space. The Spa Suites on Decks 8 and 9 deserve a special mention too, particularly the bathrooms, which include an oversized steam shower and light therapy alongside a bath overlooking the ocean.
Wellness and fitness
The 550 sqm Senses Spa includes a yoga and Pilates studio, outdoor vitality pools, and cabanas for relaxing between treatments. The Salt Therapy Lounge stood out especially, with heated loungers and aromatherapy scents designed to help you properly unwind.
We should mention one small difference of opinion here. One of us found the gym compact but well equipped, while the other described it as spacious and fully kitted out. Either way, it clearly has everything you need for a proper workout at sea.
Expedition features
Scenic Eclipse II leans hard into genuine exploration, and it shows. The Open Bridge Policy lets guests visit the navigation wheelhouse on Deck 7, meet the captain and officers, and watch the ship’s digital steering technology in action.
Perhaps most impressive of all are the two Airbus H130-T2 helicopters, seating up to six guests plus a pilot, used for flightseeing excursions in destinations like Antarctica and the Mediterranean. Seeing one out on the helipad during our visit really brought home just how serious Scenic Eclipse II is about exploration. A custom-built submarine is also available on selected voyages for guests wanting to see the ocean from a completely different angle.
Our verdict
Scenic Eclipse II delivers a genuinely polished, all-round luxury experience, backed by real substance when it comes to exploration. Between the dining variety, the spa, and the expedition extras, there’s very little to fault.
