Scenic Aura: India & Sri Lanka River Cruise 2027
In October 2027, Scenic will do something that has not been done before at this level of luxury: bring ultra-inclusive river cruising to India and Sri Lanka. Scenic Aura, a purpose-built boutique river ship carrying just 44 guests, will sail the sacred Hooghly River from October 2027 through to March 2028. This is new territory for Scenic's river fleet, and it is a genuinely exciting addition to the luxury travel landscape.Availability is extremely limited. With just 22 suites across the ship and a handful of departures each season, this will sell out. If India or Sri Lanka is on your list, reading this now and acting sooner rather than later is the sensible approach.

About Scenic Aura
Scenic Aura is a dedicated river ship built for the Indian subcontinent, not a repurposed European vessel. At 213 feet in length and carrying 44 guests with a crew of 41, the ratio of crew to guest is extraordinary, close to one-to-one. Every guest sails in a suite. Every excursion is included. Every meal, every drink, every internal flight, every transfer: all covered under Scenic’s Truly All-Inclusive Promise.
The ship operates on a seasonal schedule from October to March, which aligns with the ideal travel window for India. The monsoon season is over, temperatures are comfortable, and the light is extraordinary. Scenic has timed this deliberately, and it shows.

The itineraries: river cruise and land journeys combined
Scenic Aura’s India and Sri Lanka programme does not work like a conventional river cruise. These are not simply ship-based itineraries with optional add-ons ashore. They are carefully designed journeys that blend the ultra-luxury of the ship with curated land programmes at remarkable hotels, moving between the two seamlessly.
Itineraries range from 10 to 24 days, giving guests genuine flexibility in how much of the subcontinent they explore. The river cruise component centres on the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Ganges running through West Bengal and one of the most historically and spiritually significant waterways on earth. The land journey component extends the experience to destinations including the Golden Triangle, Sri Lanka, and beyond.

7-Day Golden Triangle Land Journey & Luxury Lower Ganges Cruise
This is one of the signature itineraries in the inaugural collection and gives a clear sense of how Scenic has approached the programme. The journey takes guests through India’s most iconic destinations while adding access and experiences that standard tours simply cannot offer.
Highlights include sundowner drinks overlooking the Taj Mahal, a tuk-tuk ride through Asia’s largest wholesale spice market, lunch at the legendary Viceroy Club within the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in Jaipur, a visit to the 1,000-year-old stepwell at Abhaneri Village, and a farewell dinner within the walls of the historic Samode Haveli. These are not generic guided tour stops. They are the kinds of experiences that take months to arrange independently and are here included within the fare.

This is what Scenic’s Truly All-Inclusive Promise means in practice. There is no bill at the end. No decision-making about which excursion to skip because of cost. No mental arithmetic at dinner. Compare this to a self-arranged trip to India, with its logistical complexity, variable guide quality, and unpredictable costs, and the value calculation shifts considerably. Why this matters for river cruising
Scenic already operates some of the most highly regarded river ships in Europe, from the Rhine and Danube to the Mekong. The launch of Scenic Aura represents a genuine step into new geographic territory for luxury river cruising, and one that has been planned carefully rather than rushed.
India is one of the most extraordinary travel destinations on earth. It is also one of the most logistically complex. Organising private access to India’s great sights, ensuring the quality of hotels and guides is consistent, managing internal flights and transfers across a subcontinent: these are the things that trip up independent travel. Scenic absorbs all of that complexity and replaces it with a fully managed, ultra-luxury journey.
With just 44 guests on each sailing, Scenic Aura offers an intimacy that larger expedition ships cannot match. For context, Scenic’s Eclipse ocean yachts carry up to 228 guests. Scenic Aura carries 44. The experience will be considerably more personal.
