Oceania Cruises has built a strong reputation for exceptional food and dining, but some experiences take its culinary offering to another level.

Recently, I stepped aboard Oceania Vista during her visit to Southampton to join just a handful of guests for the exclusive Dom Pérignon Experience. Over six courses, we enjoyed carefully selected Champagne pairings alongside beautifully crafted dishes. From the first glass to the final course, the evening gave me a real taste of what makes this experience so special.

An Intimate Evening in Privée

From the moment I stepped aboard Vista, the experience felt special.

After meeting our hosts in Horizons Bar, we made our way to the Library for a Champagne welcome. From there, we headed to Privée, Oceania’s private dining salon and one of the most intimate dining spaces on board.

Designed for just ten guests, Privée feels elegant without being overly formal. A single, custom-designed dining table sits at the centre of the room beneath a striking golden Venini chandelier.

There were only eight of us dining that evening, which made the experience feel even more personal. Then it was time to discover the menu.

Six Courses Paired with Dom Pérignon

Waiting at each place setting was the menu for the Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course gourmet dinner created by Oceania’s culinary team in collaboration with the Executive Chef of Dom Pérignon.

Each course came with a different Dom Pérignon vintage or expression, carefully chosen to complement the flavours of the dish.

Oceania’s Senior Executive Chef introduced us to the menu, while our Sommelier guided us through each Champagne. We learnt more about the individual vintages, their characteristics and why they had been chosen for each course.

I found this part fascinating. It showed just how much thought goes into pairing Champagne with food and how the right combination can completely change the flavours you notice.

One of the biggest surprises came when we discovered just how rare one of the vintages was. We were told that only 28 bottles had been produced, making the opportunity to taste it particularly memorable.

A Feast for the Senses

The food impressed throughout the evening, both in its presentation and flavour. However, two courses stood out for me.

The scallops with roasted pineapple balanced delicate sweetness with rich, vibrant flavours. Meanwhile, the Wagyu beef paired with Dom Pérignon Rosé was another highlight and one of my favourite combinations of the evening.

Every dish felt carefully considered, beautifully presented and well matched with its Champagne. Yet the evening was about more than the food and drink. With only eight guests around the table, we had plenty of time to talk, ask questions and learn from the culinary and wine experts. Nothing felt rushed, and the intimate setting allowed us to really enjoy each course before moving on to the next.

That personal approach was what made the experience stand out for me!

How Much Does the Dom Pérignon Experience Cost?

The Dom Pérignon Experience is available aboard Oceania Marina, Oceania Riviera and Oceania Vista. You can book the experience online in advance or reserve it once on board through the Dining Reservations desk, Concierge or your Butler.

The current price is $395 per person, plus 20% gratuity. You can also use onboard credit towards the experience, which is worth keeping in mind if your voyage includes credit.

Of course, it is a significant additional cost. However, if you appreciate fine dining, Champagne and the opportunity to try something a little different at sea, it is certainly a memorable way to spend an evening with Oceania Cruises.

Did I Taste the Stars?

I feel incredibly fortunate to have been one of so few guests around the table that evening.

And did I taste the stars?

Absolutely.

From the six-course menu to the Dom Pérignon pairings, every element came together beautifully. More importantly, the evening demonstrated exactly why Oceania Cruises has built such a strong reputation for its culinary offering. It was far more than simply going out for dinner, it was an experience I will remember for a very long time.
