Intimate, ultra-luxury Alaska cruises with Seabourn.

Alaska is undoubtedly one of the world’s most rewarding cruise destinations. It’s the kind of region that perfectly complements Seabourn’s small-ship approach, opening up parts of the Last Frontier that remain inaccessible to larger vessels.

Aboard the 600-guest Seabourn Encore, you’ll call into the hidden harbours of the Inside Passage rather than larger, busier cruise ports, and spend leisurely days sailing past towering glaciers and through narrow inlets while immersing yourself in the history, wildlife and culture of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia.

Every Seabourn Alaska cruise includes glacier viewing, with itineraries rotating between Hubbard Glacier, Tracy Arm, Endicott Arm and Glacier Bay throughout the season. The optional Ventures by Seabourn programme adds expedition-style experiences led by an expert team, with glacier hikes, kayaking in Misty Fjords and a Bering Sea crab-fishing adventure among the most distinctive excursions offered by any cruise line sailing Alaska.

Seabourn’s Alaska season runs from May to September, with departures alternating between Vancouver and Juneau, and itineraries ranging from seven-night Inside Passage voyages to comprehensive 14-night sailings and ocean crossings connecting Alaska with Japan and the wider Pacific. In 2028, Seabourn’s 40th anniversary year, the programme expands with new Summer Solstice voyages and a new departure point at Whittier, opening up Prince William Sound and the remote glaciers of the Kenai Peninsula.

The Cruise Line has partnered with Seabourn for more than 30 years and can offer exclusive fares and special offers on selected Alaska cruises in 2027 and 2028. We can also arrange a range of Cruise & Stay packages or tailor your holiday to your exact requirements with the addition of flights, chauffeur transfers, hotel stays and immersive land programmes.

Alaska: The Seabourn experience

Glaciers are central to the Seabourn Alaska experience, with every itinerary featuring at least one dedicated scenic cruising day. Hubbard Glacier, located in Yakutat Bay, is the largest tidewater glacier in North America and one of the most impressive sights in the region. Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm offer a more intimate experience, with Seabourn Encore navigating narrow fjords lined with hanging glaciers, drifting icebergs and cascading waterfalls. Selected itineraries also include Glacier Bay National Park, one of Alaska’s most protected and wildlife-rich environments.

Between scenic cruising days, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Alaska ashore. Southeast Alaska is remarkably diverse, from Sitka’s Russian heritage and Tlingit culture to the remote town of Haines, where hiking trails and wildlife encounters are never far away. Ports such as Ketchikan and Juneau offer a different perspective, combining frontier history, local culture and easy access to the surrounding wilderness.

The optional Ventures by Seabourn programme is one of the most distinctive aspects of a Seabourn Alaska cruise. Led by the line’s Expedition Team, these small-group excursions take you beyond the standard sightseeing experience. Highlights include Zodiac exploration of the Inian Islands and Cross Sound, one of the primary feeding grounds for humpback whales, hiking the Rainbow Falls Trail in Wrangell, and visiting Anan Creek, one of the best locations in Southeast Alaska for observing brown bears in the wild.

When you’re not exploring ashore, Seabourn Encore provides a comfortable and all-inclusive retreat. The ship’s panoramic lounges are ideal for whale watching and scenic cruising, while dining venues such as The Restaurant and The Colonnade feature regional specialities and locally inspired dishes throughout the Alaska season.

Seabourn in Alaska: What to see and when

Alaska’s cruise season runs from May to September, and each month brings a slightly different character to the experience. Early-season voyages in May often feature snow-capped mountains, fewer ships, and excellent opportunities to spot bears emerging from hibernation, as well as the first humpback whales returning from Hawaii.

June offers the longest daylight hours of the year, creating extended opportunities for wildlife viewing and scenic cruising. Moose and caribou calving season is underway, while mountain goats can often be seen on the lower slopes surrounding the Inside Passage.

July is traditionally regarded as Alaska’s peak cruising month. Salmon runs attract brown bears to rivers and waterfalls throughout Southeast Alaska, while orca pods become increasingly active in the Inside Passage. The combination of abundant wildlife and long summer days makes this one of the most popular times to visit.

By August, wildlife viewing is often at its best. Brown bears gather in large numbers around salmon-rich waterways, including renowned locations such as Anan Creek, while sea otters, whales and bald eagles are frequently sighted throughout the region.

September brings a quieter atmosphere, with fewer ships sailing and the first signs of autumn colour appearing across the landscape. Humpback whales feed intensively before beginning their migration south, and the softer light creates some of the most rewarding photography opportunities of the season.

If you’d like to extend your holiday, our Cruise & Stay packages can combine your Seabourn voyage with flights, transfers and hotel stays in Vancouver, Anchorage or Denali National Park. A few days in Denali, in particular, adds a completely different perspective on Alaska, taking you beyond the coastline and into the vast interior wilderness that makes the state so remarkable.
