Windstar Names Libby Anschutz Godmother of Star Seeker

December 2025

Windstar Cruises has officially announced that Libby Anschutz, daughter of company owner Phil Anschutz, will take on the role of Godmother to the luxury cruise line’s newest all-suite yacht, Star Seeker. This marks an exciting moment for the brand as it continues to expand its small ship fleet, a style of cruising that is increasingly popular with UK travellers seeking space, service and immersive itineraries.

The 342-guest Star Seeker will be christened in Miami on 15 January 2026, following Libby’s first shipyard visit alongside Windstar President Christopher Prelog in November 2025.

Libby Anschutz’s First Look at Star Seeker

“Seeing Star Seeker for the first time was an unforgettable experience; the design, warmth, and attention to detail all felt distinctly Windstar. I’m honored to serve as Godmother and look forward to celebrating this incredible new chapter with the team and our guests in January.”

Her reaction reflects Windstar’s continuing focus on intimate luxury, personal service and thoughtful design, all qualities that resonate strongly with UK luxury cruise guests.

Christopher Prelog added:

“Having the Anschutz Family so deeply ingrained in the debut of Star Seeker is an extraordinary honor and a deeply personal milestone for all of us at Windstar. Libby’s role as Godmother brings heart, creativity, and a genuine connection to what we do, and her blessing of our newest yacht makes this new chapter even more meaningful.”

What to Expect at the Star Seeker Christening Ceremony

During the official naming ceremony in Miami, Libby will deliver the traditional godmother’s blessing, offering her well wishes for the ship and her future guests. She will also take part in the long-standing maritime tradition of breaking a champagne bottle against the hull, symbolising luck and safe passage for all who sail on Star Seeker.

The ceremony is expected to highlight Windstar’s ongoing investment in small-ship luxury, destination-led sailing, and personalised cruise experiences, qualities that appeal to travellers seeking a more intimate alternative to larger cruise ships.

The Anschutz Family Continues Its Godmother Legacy

The family connection extends further. Libby’s sister, Sarah Anschutz, will be Godmother of Windstar’s second new all-suite yacht, Star Explorer, which will be christened in London on 31 May 2027. This ensures that both of Windstar’s upcoming vessels carry meaningful, personal links to the brand’s ownership and leadership.

Together, these milestones highlight an exciting new chapter for Windstar Cruises, reinforcing its position as a leading name in luxury small-ship cruising and as one to watch for UK travellers seeking elevated experiences at sea.
