Windstar Cruises Launches Star Seeker on Her Maiden Voyage
January 2026

Windstar Cruises’ Star Seeker set sail on its maiden voyage on 28 December, crossing the Atlantic from Málaga, Spain, to Miami, where the ship is due to be christened.
As Windstar’s first purpose-built newbuild in over three decades, Star Seeker marks a significant moment for the cruise line. Designed for just over 220 guests, she brings a fresh chapter to Windstar’s Star Class fleet, blending familiar yacht-style cruising with modern design, new suite categories and enhanced onboard features.

A Milestone Maiden Voyage from Málaga to Miami
Star Seeker’s maiden sailing is a 16-night transatlantic voyage, offering guests an extended introduction to the ship rather than a short shakedown cruise. Departing from Málaga, the itinerary takes in the Canary Islands and the Bahamas before arriving in Miami in early 2026.
One of the highlights of the crossing is a festive call in Tenerife, where Star Seeker is docked for New Year’s Eve. It is a fitting way to welcome 2026, with guests celebrating the New Year on board Windstar’s newest yacht in the heart of the Canary Islands.
Additional calls include Freeport in the Bahamas, where the ship is gently introduced to Caribbean waters ahead of her inaugural season in the region.

Windstar’s First Newbuild in Over 30 Years
Delivered earlier this month from the WestSEA shipyard in Portugal, Star Seeker is the first newbuild to join Windstar Cruises in more than 30 years. While the ship follows the Star Class design philosophy, she has been purpose-built from the keel up, allowing Windstar to refine and enhance many elements of the onboard experience.
The ship welcomed her first paying guests in Málaga, with Windstar positioning the maiden voyage as both a celebration and a showcase of what guests can expect from this next generation of small-ship cruising.

All-Suite Accommodation with New Categories
At the heart of Star Seeker is her all-suite design. The ship features 112 ocean-view suites, most with either a private veranda or a floor-to-ceiling infinity window.
Several new suite categories debut on Star Seeker, including the Horizon Owner’s Suites, which offer wraparound balconies and generous living space. Infinity Suites feature expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the line between indoors and out, while Oceanview Suites include distinctive mosaic glass showers.
The overall design leans towards a calm, contemporary feel, with light woods, soft neutral tones, and thoughtful storage throughout. Suites feel more like boutique hotel rooms than traditional cruise cabins, particularly well-suited to longer voyages across multiple regions.

Dining and Social Spaces on Board
Star Seeker introduces five dining venues, all included in Windstar’s standard cruise fare. Among them is Basil + Bamboo, a new Mediterranean-Asian fusion restaurant that reflects the ship’s future deployments in both the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia.
Other onboard highlights include a reimagined Yacht Club café and lounge, an expanded World Spa, and a multi-level fitness and wellness area. Public spaces have been designed to feel relaxed and unhurried, encouraging guests to linger rather than rush from venue to venue.
Yacht-Style Cruising and Watersports Platform
One of Windstar’s signatures is direct access to the sea, and Star Seeker takes this a step further with a newly designed watersports platform at the stern. When conditions allow, guests can swim, kayak or paddleboard directly from the ship, creating a true yacht-style experience.
The outdoor decks have also been carefully considered. A redesigned pool area offers tiered lounging and shaded seating, while a forward-facing whirlpool deck provides quieter spaces for scenic cruising, particularly appealing in regions such as Alaska or Japan.

Caribbean Sailings and the Christening Voyage
Following her arrival in Miami, Star Seeker will begin a series of Eastern and Southern Caribbean sailings, introducing the ship to Windstar’s North American audience.
One of the first showcase itineraries is an eight-night sailing from Miami to San Juan, calling at the Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands. The ship’s christening will take place during this period, marking the official launch of Star Seeker into the Windstar fleet.
These early Caribbean voyages allow guests to experience the ship’s new features in familiar tropical settings, with plenty of opportunities for marina days and late departures.
Alaska, Japan and Southeast Asia on the Horizon
After her Caribbean season, Star Seeker is scheduled to sail to Alaska for the summer, before heading to Japan and Southeast Asia later in the year.
Windstar has already outlined plans for immersive land-and-sea itineraries in countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. These programmes combine cruising with inland touring, offering deeper cultural experiences beyond the ports.
The ship’s smaller size allows access to less crowded harbours, while extended stays and curated excursions reflect Windstar’s focus on destination-led travel rather than high-energy onboard entertainment.
Sustainability and Modern Technology
While boutique in scale, Star Seeker has been built with modern environmental and safety technology. She is powered by Tier III emissions-compliant engines, designed to significantly reduce nitrogen oxide output, and is equipped for shore power connectivity where available.
Advanced wastewater treatment systems and energy-efficient onboard systems support Windstar’s long-term sustainability goals, particularly important for itineraries in ecologically sensitive regions such as Alaska and Southeast Asia.

What Star Seeker Means for Windstar Guests
The launch of Star Seeker represents more than just a new ship for Windstar Cruises. It signals a renewed commitment to small-ship luxury, destination depth and relaxed, yacht-style travel.
For guests, this means more choice within an intimate cruising environment, whether sailing the Caribbean, exploring Alaska, or venturing deeper into Asia. With fewer than 230 guests on board, experiences remain personal, unhurried and thoughtfully curated.
As Star Seeker begins her maiden season, she sets the tone for Windstar’s next chapter, offering a modern take on the small-ship cruising experience that has long defined the brand.
