Wind Surf Review July 2025

November 2025

A warm welcome aboard Wind Surf

From the polished wooden decks to the warm smiles of the crew, my arrival on Windstar Cruises’ Wind Surf was a seamless blend of elegance, comfort and the promise of an unforgettable voyage. The boarding process was impressively quick, taking less than ten minutes from dock to deck. My luggage was whisked away without fuss, and the crew welcomed me with friendly conversation. A touching moment between a returning guest and a long-serving crew member hinted at the loyalty and connections this ship inspires.

The ship has the charm of a private sailing yacht. Its boutique size creates a relaxed atmosphere where guests and crew greet each other by name within days. Soft lighting, tasteful décor and the gentle scent of the sea added to its inviting feel.

What was your accommodation like on board?

“I stayed in a Category AX stateroom that was compact but cleverly designed, with every detail considered. Even without a balcony, it felt practical and comfortable, with daily fresh fruit, complimentary bottled water and a television with daily programmes and port information. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, storage was generous and L’Occitane bath products added a touch of indulgence. The space reflected the yacht’s personality: understated, comfortable and perfect for guests who appreciate intimate surroundings.”

Exploring the heart of Wind Surf

When it comes to the public spaces and lounges on board Wind Surf, the Yacht Club Café quickly became my favourite spot. Large windows framed sweeping sea views, while soft lighting and comfortable seating created a cosy, inviting atmosphere. It was perfect for a morning coffee or a light afternoon bite.

The Lounge on Deck 4 had a softer, more intimate ambience, with plush seating perfect for quiet chats or evening drinks. Out on deck, from Deck 4 to Deck 6, there were sunbeds, a swimming pool and two hot tubs. The Compass Rose Bar brought the evenings to life with live music and an easy, social buzz.

Even with 270 guests on board, there was always enough space. The ship’s design balanced lively social areas with peaceful hideaways, meaning it never felt crowded.

Casual bites to elegant evenings

Dining aboard Wind Surf was a highlight. Veranda offered relaxed breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, while Amphora Restaurant and Stella Bistro were venues for only elegant three-course dinners. Menus, influenced by the James Beard Foundation, were consistently excellent, from flavourful starters to beautifully presented desserts.

Service was warm, attentive and personal. The staff remembered my name and wine preferences, and often made thoughtful menu suggestions. Whether dining casually or more formally, the atmosphere felt special yet never overly formal.

Entertainment and fun experiences!

Days on Wind Surf had a gentle rhythm. Morning yoga and Pilates provided a refreshing start, while port talks offered fascinating insights into upcoming destinations. A personal highlight was a lively song quiz hosted by Matt O, the Entertainment Manager, which was full of laughter and friendly competition. Another memorable moment was being invited to tour the bridge, where we met a welcoming crew and learned more about life at the helm.

One signature experience stood out. Watching the sails unfurl, accompanied by playful, pirate-inspired music, was a dramatic and joyful moment. It felt like the true spirit of Windstar.

The crew who bring Wind Surf to life

The crew’s hospitality was warm and professional. There was a brief moment in The Lounge when service felt slower than usual, but this was rare. One particularly thoughtful touch was a beautifully crafted Spanish-style fan left in my stateroom after a day in Cádiz. It was a useful and charming keepsake that captured the ship’s personal approach to service.

My final thoughts

Wind Surf is ideal for couples, solo travellers and anyone who values a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. The ship’s size allows for personalised service, a friendly social culture and plenty of quiet spaces to unwind. Memorable moments, from the unfurling sails to peaceful mornings on deck, make this a ship for those who appreciate understated luxury.

Disembarkation was as smooth as embarkation, quick and well organised. My only regret was not packing a swimsuit. Next time, I will spend even more time by the pool or in the hot tub, book in hand, letting the sea set the pace of my day.
