What to Wear on a Norway Cruise
There are some essential items that you do want to pack when going on a Norwegian cruise, including the following:
- A coat: If you are visiting during the winter months, make sure you bring a coat that isn’t just waterproof but also keeps you warm. A light jacket will suffice if you are visiting during the summer months.
- Various layers: Packing clothes that you can layer ensures you stay warm throughout your Norwegian cruise. Bringing jumpers, tops, and thermals lets you adapt to the weather as needed.
- Correct footwear: Make sure to pack shoes you are comfortable in and can rely on, especially if you plan outdoor activities. Some terrain in Norway can be uneven and snowy, so walking shoes are ideal for exploring off the ship and in port.
- Formal wear: Depending on who you choose to cruise with, some cruises expect you to dress formally in the evenings onboard, but there are also cruise lines where casual wear is perfectly welcome.
- Camera/Phone: It goes without saying – bringing a camera or having your phone with you is a staple when travelling anywhere in the world. It is the perfect way to capture special moments you can look back on later.
- Sunglasses & Suncream: Although the climate is usually cooler in Norway, the sun still shines. UV rays in colder countries can still affect your skin, so protecting your skin and eyes is essential.

The Northern Lights can only be seen when the sky is dark. To have the best chance of witnessing this natural phenomenon, consider taking a cruise to Norway between September and March. The darkest months, from December to February, offer the best opportunity to view the Northern Lights.
