Selecting the best layout on Explora I & II
Every guest on an Explora Journeys sailing stays in a suite with a private terrace. There are no interior cabins or 'Oceanview' rooms (window-only), ensuring every guest enjoys private outdoor space and sea views. But with several suite categories across two ships, choosing the right one takes some thought. This guide covers every category, what the deck layouts look like, and how to find the combination that suits you best.
Suite categories on Explora I & II
Ocean Terrace Suite
The entry point, and a genuinely impressive one. Ocean Terrace Suites measure around 35 square metres, making them among the largest entry-level suites in luxury cruising. Each features floor-to-ceiling windows, a private ocean-facing terrace, a walk-in wardrobe, a lounge area, and a fully stocked minibar replenished to your preferences. Dyson hairdryers and luxury toiletries are standard throughout. For a first voyage, the Ocean Terrace Suite is the right starting point. The service, dining, and onboard experience are consistent regardless of suite category. Read our Explora Journeys review for a first-hand account of life in this category.
Grand Terrace Suite
A step up in size and positioning, with a larger terrace and enhanced furnishings. Ideal for guests who want more outdoor living space, particularly on a Mediterranean or Caribbean sailing where the terrace becomes an extension of daily life.

Ocean Penthouse
The Ocean Penthouses introduce a separate lounge area and a noticeably larger layout. Enhanced services and a more premium position on the ship make these popular for guests who plan to spend significant time in their suite. The additional space becomes truly valuable on longer voyages.
Ocean Residence
The Ocean Residences sit at the top of the standard suite hierarchy. Spacious, butler-served retreats with prime locations on the ship. They represent the Explora Journeys design philosophy at its fullest.
Owner’s Residence
The pinnacle of Explora Journeys accommodation. Expansive living areas, premium inclusions, and the best position on the ship. For guests celebrating a milestone, this is it.

Explora I vs Explora II: What is the difference?
Explora I launched in 2023 as the fleet’s debut ship and carries just over 900 guests. Explora II followed in 2025 with a near-identical layout and the same suite categories. Both share the same design philosophy, dining venues, wellness facilities, and service standards. The choice between them comes down to itinerary rather than ship.
Explora III is set to launch in summer 2026, expanding the fleet further. Read more about it on our Explora III page.
Deck plan tips: Where to position yourself
Midship suites on the middle decks offer the smoothest ride and the most convenient access to public areas. Higher deck suites provide elevated views. Forward suites offer dramatic views as the ship enters port but can feel more movement in rougher seas.
The adults-only Helios Pool is on Deck 12 and the Sky Bar on Deck 14. For more detail on these spaces, our Explora Journeys expert guide covers the full ship layout.
