Crystal Cruises dress code and packing guide: What to expect for a world-class experience
Packing for a Crystal voyage is a genuinely enjoyable exercise once you know what you are working with. The brand has been revitalised under the A&K Travel Group and the ships feel like themselves again, elegant European pedigree with a more relaxed, destination-led energy running through everything. The staff-to-guest ratio is almost one-to-one, and your butler, available in every suite category, is equally comfortable dealing with hiking boots as a silk dinner jacket. That sets the tone for everything else.
Crystal keeps it simple. By day the standard is Crystal Casual, relaxed but considered. After dark it shifts to an Evening Resort aesthetic, polished without being formal. This guide gives you the specifics you need to feel completely at home on Crystal Serenity or Crystal Symphony.
The Crystal dress code: Day and evening
Crystal has moved away from the rigid formalities of the past, but it remains one of the more dressed-up lines in the luxury sector. The transition at 6pm is an important part of the ship’s social fabric.

Daytime: Crystal Casual
During the day, the vibe is sophisticated and active. Whether you are at a lecture in the Galaxy Lounge or enjoying a casual lunch at Tastes, “Crystal Casual” is the standard. For men, this means tailored shorts or chinos and polo shirts. For ladies, sundresses, casual skirts, or smart trousers are appropriate.
If you are wondering what to wear on Crystal Serenity during a day at sea, think high-quality resort wear. While swimwear is perfectly acceptable on the Sun Deck or by the Seahorse Pool, you must wear a wrap, kaftan, or shirt when moving through the indoor areas or into the Bistro for coffee.

Evening: Crystal Evening Resort
After 6pm, the atmosphere in the bars and restaurants becomes more polished. The “Evening Resort” code is the default for most nights.
- For men: A collared shirt (button-down or polo) with trousers. A jacket is optional but frequently seen in Umi Uma or the Vintage Room. Ties are almost never required.
- For ladies: A blouse with trousers or a skirt, or a chic cocktail dress.
Jeans are permitted in the evenings provided they are dark, well-fitted, and paired with smart shoes and a collared shirt or elegant top. However, most guests choose to elevate their look slightly beyond denim for dinner.
Formal Optional evenings
On voyages of seven nights or more, there is usually one “Formal Optional” evening. For many regular Crystal guests, this is a highlight of the voyage.
While suiting up is not mandatory, these evenings are the ideal time to debut your most elegant attire. It is the moment when those well-considered luxury cruise packing tips truly pay off; men often choose a dark suit or tuxedo, while ladies frequently opt for sophisticated evening gowns or cocktail dresses. If you prefer to remain in “Evening Resort” attire on these nights, you will still be warmly welcomed, though you may find the majority of your fellow guests have chosen to dress for the occasion.
Packing for shore excursions with A&K
With Abercrombie & Kent now managing the destination experience, Crystal’s excursions have become more immersive and, in some cases, more active.

- Footwear: For European city walks or visits to ancient ruins, bring sturdy, broken-in walking shoes. For more adventurous “A&K Adventures,” such as zodiac tours or light hiking, moisture-wicking socks and water-resistant shoes are essential.
- Layering: Many Crystal itineraries involve early morning departures. A lightweight, windproof jacket and breathable layers will serve you better than one heavy coat.
- The “Crystal Bag”: You will find a reusable tote bag in your suite, which is perfect for carrying your sun-cream and camera, but we recommend bringing a small, high-quality daypack for longer A&K excursions.
Laundry and suite amenities
Crystal’s commitment to service means you can afford to pack efficiently, even on a world cruise.
- Butler service: Regardless of your suite category, your butler can arrange for professional laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing. For guests in higher categories, a certain amount of pressing is often included.
- Self-service launderettes: For those who prefer to handle their own laundry, there are complimentary self-service facilities on almost every deck, equipped with high-end washers, dryers, and ironing stations.
- Toiletries: Every suite is stocked with premium Italian Ortigia toiletries. Unless you have a very specific medical requirement, there is no need to pack your own shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion.
