Two nights in Bridgetown ease you gently into the trip before the ship slips away towards Saint Lucia’s improbable green peaks and the barely-touched shores of Montserrat, an island that time, and the odd volcano, has shaped into something quietly extraordinary. Further out into the archipelago, Jost Van Dyke, named for a 17th-century Dutch pirate, offers rum shacks and reef-clear water in roughly equal measure. The return leg swings through Martinique and Grenada, two islands with real depth to them, before Bridgetown comes back into view for the final morning.
