Silversea Itineraries & Shore Excursions

March 2026

Silversea Itineraries & Shore Excursions Guide

Silversea operates one of the broadest itinerary programmes in ultra-luxury cruising, covering over 900 destinations across all seven continents. This range is not just a marketing point. For guests who travel with Silversea regularly, the ability to return to familiar ships while visiting genuinely new destinations is part of the appeal. This guide covers the main Silversea cruise itineraries for 2026 and 2027, how shore excursions work, and the honest case for and against exploring independently.

Silversea 2026 and 2027 Destinations

Mediterranean

The Mediterranean remains Silversea’s most popular region. Silver Muse and Silver Moon operate extensively across the Western and Eastern Mediterranean throughout summer, calling at ports that larger ships cannot access. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights, with combinations covering the Greek islands, Adriatic coast, Italian Riviera, and Iberian Peninsula. The 2026 season opens early April and runs through November.

Antarctica and Expedition

Silversea’s Antarctica itineraries operate from November through March aboard Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind, and Silver Cloud. The 2026/2027 season includes classic Peninsula sailings, South Georgia crossings, and the longer Weddell Sea itineraries. These book well in advance and the best cabin categories go early. If Antarctica is on your list, the time to plan is now – and if you’re wondering what to pack, our Silversea Packing & Dress Code Guide covers everything you need.

Alaska

Silver Muse operates Alaska cruises in the summer season, covering Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, Juneau, and the Inside Passage. The ship’s smaller size allows calls at ports that larger vessels skip entirely. The 2026 Alaska season runs from May through August.

Asia and the Far East

Silversea’s Asia itineraries cover Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Indian subcontinent, typically in the autumn and winter months when the Mediterranean fleet repositions. Japan sailings in particular are in high demand for the spring 2026 season and are worth booking as early as possible.

South America and the Caribbean

South America sailings cover both coasts, with the Amazon and Patagonia among the most sought-after itineraries. Caribbean cruises tend to operate over the winter months and offer a more relaxed, island-hopping pace compared to expedition-style sailings.

Silversea Shore Excursions: What Is on Offer

Silversea shore excursions cover the full range from half-day city walking tours to full-day private car hires and specialist adventure activities. On expedition voyages, Zodiac landings and guided hikes are led by the onboard expedition team and included in the fare. On ocean sailings, excursions are bookable through the ship at an additional cost.

Excursions can be booked in advance through My Silversea or onboard after embarkation. Pre-booking is advisable for popular ports and high-demand activities such as private guides in Rome, cooking classes in Kyoto, or glacier walks in Alaska.

Independent Exploration vs Silversea Shore Excursions

This is the question that divides Silversea guests more than almost any other. The honest answer is that both approaches work, and the right one depends on the port.

In well-serviced ports like Dubrovnik, Lisbon, or Santorini, independent exploration is straightforward. Taxis, local guides, and public transport are accessible from the dock, and you are not tied to a group schedule. In more complex destinations, or where language is a barrier, an organised excursion provides structure and access that is difficult to replicate independently.

One practical consideration for Silversea guests: the ship waits for its own excursion buses. It does not wait for independent travellers who miss the departure time. If you are exploring independently in a port with unpredictable transport, factor that risk into your plans.

What a Typical Silversea Port Day Looks Like

The day usually starts with an early breakfast and a briefing sheet delivered to your suite the night before, covering port information, transport options, and the weather. The ship typically docks or tenders between 7am and 9am, depending on the port.

Guests on excursions disembark in organised groups. Independent travellers leave at their own pace. Most ports allow four to eight hours ashore. The ship’s Explorer Lounge or expedition team are available for advice on where to go and what to expect, and this local knowledge is worth using before you head off on your own.
