The Regent wardrobe: Navigating elegant casual style and the Regent cruises dress code

Preparing for a Regent Seven Seas itinerary is an exercise in refined simplicity. Because Regent is arguably the most inclusive luxury line at sea, the mental load of planning is hugely reduced. You do not need to worry about beverage packages, gratuities, or shore excursion costs. Consequently, your primary focus is ensuring your wardrobe reflects the "Elegant Casual" atmosphere that defines the fleet.   Whether you are booked on a Mediterranean circuit or a tropical sailing on the new Seven Seas Grandeur, the expectation is one of understated sophistication. Regent guests tend to favour high-quality fabrics and classic silhouettes over flashy logos or overly formal attire.

Understanding the Regent cruises dress code

The dress code on Regent Seven Seas changes based on the time of day and the specific venue. While the atmosphere is undoubtedly luxurious, it is rarely restrictive.

Daytime resort wear

During the day, the vibe is “Sophisticated Resort”. For men, this translates to polo shirts, linen shirts, and tailored shorts or chinos. For ladies, sundresses, capri pants, and elegant tunics are the standard. While you are welcome to wear swimwear at the Pool Grill or on the pool deck, you must wear a suitable cover-up when moving through the ship’s interior or heading to the La Veranda buffet for lunch.

The 6pm transition: Elegant casual

The most important rule regarding the Regent cruise’s dress code is the 6pm transition. After this time, the ship takes on a more polished feel. Shorts, T-shirts, and baseball caps are strictly not permitted in any of the public lounges or restaurants.

For men, “Elegant Casual” means slacks (chinos or tailored trousers) and a collared shirt. A jacket is never mandatory for dinner, but on a ship like Seven Seas Grandeur, many men choose to wear a blazer or sports coat in venues like Prime 7 or Compass Rose. Ties are very rarely seen on board.

Regent Seven Seas dress code for ladies

For ladies, the evening wardrobe is versatile. Most guests opt for:

    • Tailored trousers or silk palazzo pants paired with a refined blouse.
    • Skirts and high-quality knitwear.
    • Cocktail dresses or smart maxi dresses.

The key is to avoid anything too casual. While “elegant jeans” (dark, well-fitted, and without distressing) are technically permitted in some areas, we generally advise our clients to stick to trousers or skirts to ensure they feel comfortable in all venues, including the flagship restaurants.

Packing essentials for your Regent seven seas itinerary

When considering what to wear on Regent seven seas cruises, you must account for the destination and the air-conditioned interior of the ship.

  • Light layers: Even on a Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise, the evening breeze on deck can be cool, and the ship’s internal climate control is efficient. A pashmina for ladies or a lightweight sweater for men is essential.
  • Footwear: Bring comfortable shoes for shore excursions, particularly for European ports with cobblestone streets. For the evening, loafers or dress shoes for men and smart flats or heels for ladies are required.
  • Formal Optional evenings: On voyages of 16 nights or more, Regent may hold “Formal Optional” evenings. While not mandatory, many guests enjoy the opportunity to wear a tuxedo or evening gown. If you prefer to stay in Elegant Casual attire on these nights, you will still be perfectly welcome in all venues.

Laundry and suite amenities

Regent provides an exceptionally high level of suite service, which allows you to pack more efficiently.

  • Self-service laundry: Every deck featuring guest suites has a complimentary launderette. These are well-maintained and include free detergent, irons, and ironing boards.
  • Professional services: If you are staying in a Master Suite or higher, or if you have reached a certain level in the Seven Seas Society, complimentary laundry and pressing services are often included.
  • Toiletries: Your suite is stocked with premium L’Occitane or Guerlain products, so there is no need to bring your own unless you have a specific preference.
