Celebrity Cruises have christened their newest vessel, Celebrity Apex, at a prestigious naming ceremony held in Florida earlier this week.
Celebrity Apex was christened in Fort Lauderdale ahead of her maiden voyage from Port Everglades. The 2,900-guest ship, initially intended to launch in March 2020, was delayed due to the pandemic. Despite being officially delivered to Celebrity Cruises during a virtual event last year, the christening marks the first time Celebrity Apex has been in a position to set sail with guests onboard.
Celebrity Apex is Celebrity Cruises’ second Edge-Class ship following the arrival of Celebrity Edge in 2018. Guaranteed to turn heads in any port, the vessel pushes modern travel to the next level with spacious, contemporary staterooms, elegant public spaces and 29 different culinary venues offering incredible dining experiences in sumptuous surroundings.
Reshma Saujani, the founder of ‘Girls Who Code’ and author of the bestseller Brave, Not Perfect, is the Godmother of Celebrity Apex and joined Celebrity Cruises’ CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo onstage during the ceremony. The partnership between Girls Who Code and Celebrity means interactive coding activities from the Girls Who Code curriculum is now part of the onboard cruise programme.

Celebrity Apex will now spend the winter cruising the Caribbean and Central America before heading to Europe to cruise Scandinavia, the British Isles and the Mediterranean next summer.
Celebrity Cruises Edge-Class fleet will be further enhanced in 2022 when a new ship, Celebrity Beyond, joins the fleet.
