Carnival of Venice: Winter Italy and the Dalmatian Coast Fly-Cruise, 30 January 2027

A golden Adriatic sunset trail
Journey through the Eastern Mediterranean for eight nights aboard Star Explorer, from Zadar's sea organ sunsets to Dubrovnik's walls and Naples' volcanic skyline.

Cruise overview
Carnival season in Venice is unlike anywhere else on earth. Masked figures drift through fog-laced alleyways, the canals reflect the glow of lanterns, and the city hums with a kind of theatrical magic that feels centuries old. Star Explorer slips away from this spectacle and charts a course south through waters that have shaped civilisations, calling at Zadar’s sun-bleached Roman ruins, the fortress walls of Dubrovnik rising straight from the Adriatic, and the chaotic, delicious disorder of Naples before journey’s end at Civitavecchia. Eight nights thread together some of the Mediterranean’s most storied places, each one quite different from the last, connected by open sea and the unhurried rhythm of life aboard a small, intimate ship. This is a journey that moves between worlds, from the carnival crowds of Venice to the quiet grandeur of Sicily’s hillside towns, with enough sea days in between to simply breathe it all in.
Itinerary
Fly to Venice and embark
Your flight to Venice marks the start of something special. On arrival, a private transfer takes you directly to the port, where Star Explorer becomes your home for the voyage ahead. Tonight, you sleep moored in the lagoon itself.
Venice is a city unlike any other. No matter how often you’ve seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. The fabulous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading center between Europe and the Orient. Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you’ll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals congregate for a coffee or an aperitif.
