Flowers of the South Pacific: Fiji, the Cook Islands & French Polynesia

Cruise overview
Remote beaches and rich Polynesian culture abound throughout this iconic South Pacific voyage to remote and exotic destinations in Fiji, Tonga, the Cook Islands, and French Polynesia. Visiting Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cook Islands offers a chance to experience the pristine beauty of turquoise lagoons, white-sand beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. In Rarotonga, join an informative guided nature trek, where you’ll learn about the islands culture and history from a local. Sail into a sunset cruise, dine on local seafood, and rekindle romantic magic at beachside resort accommodations during an overnight stay on Bora Bora. Explore the subterranean splendors of ‘Ana Hulu in Tonga, a coral limestone cavern concealing scenic freshwater lakes where centuries of locals and explorers refreshed and replenished. Wander rainforest paths on Taveuni’s Bouma National Heritage Park, celebrated as ‘the garden island of Fiji,’ or seek out fusion dining serving up Fijian fish dishes and tropical fruit cocktails. Indulge in sweet cocoa farm treats during a delicious tree-to-bar tour on Vana Levu.
Itinerary
Lautoka
North of Nadi through sugarcane plantations and past the Sabeto Mountains is Lautoka, nicknamed the Sugar City for the local agriculture and its big processing mill. With a population of around 50,000, it’s the only city besides Suva and, like the capital, has a pleasant waterfront. It’s the sailing point for Blue Lagoon and Beachcomber Cruises but is otherwise unremarkable for tourists, itself having few hotels and fewer good restaurants. Locals recommend the city as a less-expensive place to shop for clothing, but note that it can take as long as 45 minutes to drive here. Legend has it that Lautoka acquired its name when two chiefs engaged in combat and one hit the other with a spear. He proclaimed “lau toka” (spear hit) and thus the future town was named.
