Cruise overview

Embark on an incredible 14-night voyage that crosses the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Japan. Setting sail from Seward, we come to the quaint fishing harbor of Homer, followed by rugged Kodiak Island, a wilderness patrolled by bears, wolves, and moose. Now we have some time at sea to make the most of Crystal Serenity’s onboard offerings – from fine dining to world class entertainment – as we cross the International Date Line, bound for Japan. We arrive in Kushiro on the east coast of Hokkaido, home to wetlands beloved by birds – including the red-crowned crane, a national symbol of longevity. Over in Hakodate, relax in steaming onsen; in Aomori, admire the apple and cherry orchards set against the Hakkoda Mountains; and in Sendai, discover the remains of a 17th-century castle. Our final stop is Hitachinaka, a young city renowned for its blossom-filled oceanfront park, before we disembark in dynamic Tokyo.

Itinerary

Day 1

Seward, Alaska

It is hard to believe that a place as beautiful as Seward exists. Surrounded on all sides by Kenai Fjords National Park, Chugach National Forest, and Resurrection Bay, Seward offers all the quaint realities of a small railroad town with the bonus of jaw-dropping scenery. This little town of about 2,750 citizens was founded in 1903, when survey crews arrived at the ice-free port and began planning a railroad to the Interior. Since its inception, Seward has relied heavily on tourism and commercial fishing. It is also the launching point for excursions into Kenai Fjords National Park, where it is quite common to see marine life and calving glaciers.
