Life’s a beach in San Diego, but we’ve places to go. First, we head over the Mexican border to the food and wine hub of Ensenada. Next, we spend a day sailing to the popular vacation resorts of Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, before reaching Acajutla in El Salvador, where a coffee from one of the plantations is a must. Surf central San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua is next, then Puntarenas, Costa Rica, famed for its seafood. After a day at sea, we reach South America at Manta in Ecuador, renowned for its wickerwork, then Guayaquil, gateway to the incredible Galápagos Islands. Two relaxing sea days take us to Central America at Fuerte Amador for Panama City, where we spend three nights. After our ship has slipped along the famous canal, we make for Cartagena, a beautiful UNESCO-listed city on the coast of Colombia. Then we cross the Caribbean to historic Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the holiday playground of Punta Cana, and lively San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico. Next, a sequence of small islands maps a charming route. First is Marigot, on the French-speaking side of Saint Martin, then Roseau on rainforest-clad Dominica. Buzzy Bridgetown in Barbados delivers us to powder sands before the twin volcanic cones, the Pitons, welcome us to Saint Lucia. Follow in Nelson’s footsteps in St John’s, Antigua; beach-bar-hop in Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands; learn all about the Dominican Republic in the museum at Samana; and wiggle your toes in the white sands at Grand Turk on Turks and Caicos before two sea days take us to our final port, New York City.
