Cruise overview
Set sail from Fort Lauderdale on a 14-night island-hopping cruise around the Caribbean. Begin with a relaxing day at sea before arriving in George Town on Grand Cayman, a good place for shopping or visit the National Museum. Next, Jamaica, where we visit Montego Bay to recline on its stunning beaches or enjoy a round of golf. After another day at sea, La Romana in the Dominican Republic tempts with its powder-white sands and lush national parks. Explore the historic streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico, from the saddle of a bicycle before browsing the glamorous boutiques of Gustavia, St. Barts. In St. John’s, Antigua, discover the beautifully preserved Georgian-era dockyard used by Admiral Nelson’s ships, then alight at Basseterre in St. Kitts for the Brimstone Fort National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next, we dive into Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, a place beloved by snorkelers for its dazzling reef life. Returning to the Dominican Republic, we dock at Samaná to find out how chocolate is made or hike to a hidden waterfall. White sands melt into turquoise seas at Grand Turk on Turks and Caicos, where there’s time to wiggle your toes in the surf before a final sea day brings us back to Fort Lauderdale.
Itinerary
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Like many southeast Florida neighbors, Fort Lauderdale has long been revitalizing. In a state where gaudy tourist zones often stand aloof from workaday downtowns, Fort Lauderdale exhibits consistency at both ends of the 2-mile Las Olas corridor. The sparkling look results from upgrades both downtown and on the beachfront. Matching the downtown’s innovative arts district, cafés, and boutiques is an equally inventive beach area, with hotels, cafés, and shops facing an undeveloped shoreline, and new resort-style hotels replacing faded icons of yesteryear. Despite wariness of pretentious overdevelopment, city leaders have allowed a striking number of glittering high-rises. Nostalgic locals and frequent visitors fret over the diminishing vision of sailboats bobbing in waters near downtown; however, Fort Lauderdale remains the yachting capital of the world, and the water toys don’t seem to be going anywhere.
