Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver

Cruise overview
Our first port of call on this epic adventure is colorful Cartagena, Colombia. Cruising the Panama Canal brings us to Puntarenas on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, and then to Nicaragua, where you can watch the surfing at San Juan del Sur. Sample Acajutla’s famous coffee, before we enter Mexico for the blond-sand beaches of Puerto Vallarta. Returning to the U.S., we come to California, stopping at sunny San Diego, the snorkeling hotspot of Santa Catalina, and buzzy San Francisco, before heading north to Oregon and forest-fringed Astoria. Canada offers up the cool cosmopolitan capital of British Columbia, Victoria, the arty harbor town of Nanaimo, and the bustling metropolis of Vancouver. Sailing through the Seymour Narrows to Alaska, we arrive at the fishing harbor of Ketchikan, followed by Alaska’s cultured capital, Juneau, and Skagway, famous for its Gold Rush-era buildings. Witness the unforgettable spectacle of the Hubbard Glacier as we come to the formerly Russian-ruled city of Sitka and then Klawok, a significant Tlingit settlement. Then it’s back to Victoria, and our journey’s end in Vancouver.
Itinerary
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Like many southeast Florida neighbors, Fort Lauderdale has long been revitalizing. In a state where gaudy tourist zones often stand aloof from workaday downtowns, Fort Lauderdale exhibits consistency at both ends of the 2-mile Las Olas corridor. The sparkling look results from upgrades both downtown and on the beachfront. Matching the downtown’s innovative arts district, cafés, and boutiques is an equally inventive beach area, with hotels, cafés, and shops facing an undeveloped shoreline, and new resort-style hotels replacing faded icons of yesteryear. Despite wariness of pretentious overdevelopment, city leaders have allowed a striking number of glittering high-rises. Nostalgic locals and frequent visitors fret over the diminishing vision of sailboats bobbing in waters near downtown; however, Fort Lauderdale remains the yachting capital of the world, and the water toys don’t seem to be going anywhere.
