Cruise overview
The Danish capital of Copenhagen is the starting point for our 18-night Nordic adventure, which takes us first to Aarhus, a city that artfully blends the old and new. Sweden’s Gothenburg is our next port of call, celebrated for its picturesque canals and succulent seafood. We cross to Norway now, sailing to Arendal, famed for its watersports, Haugesund, with its Viking history and coastal walks, and Maloy, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. At Kristiansund, eat the traditional stew, bacalao, from fish caught in local waters, before a relaxing day at sea brings us to Tromso, gateway to the Arctic and land of the midnight sun. Hammerfest fascinates with its mountains and sandy beaches, before we reach Honningsvag, the world’s northernmost city, where the North Cape (Nordkapp) teems with puffins and cormorants. The next day brings us to Alta and the iconic Northern Lights Cathedral. Unwind during a day at sea, before admiring the tiny volcanic island of Jan Mayen. After another sea day, discover the remote communities of Akureyri, in northern Iceland. Reaching the Icelandic fishing town of Isafjordur, take time to soak up its pristine landscapes before we return to Reykjavík for two days’ exploring the vibrant Icelandic capital.
Itinerary
Copenhagen
By the 11th century, Copenhagen was already an important trading and fishing centre and today you will find an attractive city which, although the largest in Scandinavia, has managed to retain its low-level skyline. Discover some of the famous attractions including Gefion Fountain and Amalienborg Palace, perhaps cruise the city’s waterways, visit Rosenborg Castle or explore the medieval fishing village of Dragoer. Once the home of Hans Christian Andersen, Copenhagen features many reminders of its fairytale heritage and lives up to the reputation immortalised in the famous song ‘Wonderful Copenhagen’.
