Cruise overview

This captivating 17-night cruise from Civitavecchia to Lisbon visits some true gems of the Mediterranean. First, we sail down one of the world’s most scenic coastlines to pastel-hued, lemon-scented Sorrento. Continuing south, we come to Messina, a pretty Sicilian port known for its salt flats and delicious local beer. We arrive now in Malta for an overnight in Valletta, the cinematic capital built by the Knights of St. John in the 1500s. From here, we dip down to Tunisia, calling at La Goulette for trips to the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage. A relaxing day at sea brings us to the glamor of Monte Carlo, followed by the glamor of Livorno, the gateway to Tuscany, where nearby treasures include the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Now to Ajaccio in Corsica, Napoleon’s birthplace, hopping to Mahón on the island of Menorca with its historic cobbled center, before we reach mainland Spain for two days in Barcelona, plenty of time to absorb the majestic architecture, designer shopping, and world-leading food scene. After a relaxing day at sea, view some of the masterpieces created by local boy, the artist Picasso, in Málaga, before exploring Cádiz, Spain’s 3,000-year-old city founded by the Phoenicians. There’s time for a trip to the beach in Portimão before our voyage ends in Portugal’s historic capital, Lisbon.

Itinerary

Day 1

Civitavecchia

Italy’s vibrant capital lives in the present, but no other city on earth evokes its past so powerfully. For over 2,500 years, emperors, popes, artists, and common citizens have left their mark here. Archaeological remains from ancient Rome, art-stuffed churches, and the treasures of Vatican City vie for your attention, but Rome is also a wonderful place to practice the Italian-perfected il dolce far niente, the sweet art of idleness. Your most memorable experiences may include sitting at a caffè in the Campo de’ Fiori or strolling in a beguiling piazza.
