Cruise overview

Set sail from Fort Lauderdale for an in-depth exploration of the Caribbean. First, spend two days enjoying all our beautiful ship has to offer as we sail to the pretty harbor of Road Town in Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands, to scuba dive or stroll the old colonial streets. A trio of tropical delights await us now: people-watching in glamorous Gustavia, St. Barts; hiking in the lush green hills around Roseau, Dominica; and investigating the ruins of 17th-century Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts. The pretty pastel streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico’s lively capital, beckon before another sea day takes us to St. John’s in Antigua, an island that claims a beach for every day of the year, then Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, for a flavor of its rich Creole culture. Next comes Castries in Saint Lucia, home to a church famed for its colorful murals, and Grenada, to stock up on fresh spices. Now to tick off three islands once ruled by the Dutch: take a stroll in the shade of the mimosa trees in Kralendijk, Bonaire; see the oldest synagogue in the Americas at Willemstad in Curaçao; and explore the cacti-studded dunes near Oranjestad in Aruba. After a rejuvenating day at sea, we touch the top of South America at the atmospheric Spanish colonial city of Cartagena in Colombia. Onwards now to explore the Caribbean coast of Central America. Our first stop is Colón, at the mouth of the famed Panama Canal, then Puerto Limón is a jump-off point for some of Costa Rica’s fine beaches with a laidback vibe. A sea day delivers us to the sapphire waters of Roatán Island, Honduras, home to the world’s second-largest coral reef. At Santo Tomas in Guatemala, a nature walk to a waterfall is one of the options, and at Belize City, there is history to explore and an excellent museum. Our penultimate stop, Cozumel in Mexico, offers the chance to see spectacular Mayan ruins. One last day at sea delivers us back to vibrant Fort Lauderdale.

Itinerary

Day 1

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Like many southeast Florida neighbors, Fort Lauderdale has long been revitalizing. In a state where gaudy tourist zones often stand aloof from workaday downtowns, Fort Lauderdale exhibits consistency at both ends of the 2-mile Las Olas corridor. The sparkling look results from upgrades both downtown and on the beachfront. Matching the downtown’s innovative arts district, cafés, and boutiques is an equally inventive beach area, with hotels, cafés, and shops facing an undeveloped shoreline, and new resort-style hotels replacing faded icons of yesteryear. Despite wariness of pretentious overdevelopment, city leaders have allowed a striking number of glittering high-rises. Nostalgic locals and frequent visitors fret over the diminishing vision of sailboats bobbing in waters near downtown; however, Fort Lauderdale remains the yachting capital of the world, and the water toys don’t seem to be going anywhere.
