Cruise overview
This island-hopping adventure around the Caribbean reveals pristine beaches, delicious food, and fascinating history. On leaving Fort Lauderdale, we relax into life on board as a sea day carries us to Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos, for dreamy snorkeling in clear waters. Another day on the ocean takes us to the French side of St. Martin, where the lively open-air market is a must-see. At St. John’s in Antigua, head off to see the Georgian dockyard that was once home to Admiral Nelson’s fleet, and in Basseterre, St Kitts, explore the ruins of 17th-century Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. Sailing onwards, we reach the pretty-pastel streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico’s lively capital, renowned for its Spanish colonial buildings and exciting culinary scene. One last relaxing day at sea takes us to the Bahamas and the bustling port of Nassau, to see beautiful beaches and a trio of historic forts. Our voyage concludes where it started, in the vibrant city of Fort Lauderdale.
Itinerary
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Like many southeast Florida neighbors, Fort Lauderdale has long been revitalizing. In a state where gaudy tourist zones often stand aloof from workaday downtowns, Fort Lauderdale exhibits consistency at both ends of the 2-mile Las Olas corridor. The sparkling look results from upgrades both downtown and on the beachfront. Matching the downtown’s innovative arts district, cafés, and boutiques is an equally inventive beach area, with hotels, cafés, and shops facing an undeveloped shoreline, and new resort-style hotels replacing faded icons of yesteryear. Despite wariness of pretentious overdevelopment, city leaders have allowed a striking number of glittering high-rises. Nostalgic locals and frequent visitors fret over the diminishing vision of sailboats bobbing in waters near downtown; however, Fort Lauderdale remains the yachting capital of the world, and the water toys don’t seem to be going anywhere.
