Cruise overview

Brisbane is yet another place to join us for a while on the exciting route of our World Cruise 2027. We head to Airlie Beach, gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and Cairns, for rainforest as well as reefs, then cross to Papua New Guinea to visit Alotau, its harbor brimming with colorful boats, and Port Moresby, the capital, where ancient traditions pepper everyday life. Indonesia’s Waingapu island on Sumba offers a lesson in indigenous culture, Komodo shows why it is prized by UNESCO for biodiversity, and Benoa reveals one of Bali’s oldest temples. Next Semarang in Java offers an insight into its Dutch and Chinese influence, then Singapore showcases plants gathered from almost every continent at Gardens By The Bay. We’ll ki8ck back in lively Ko Samui, Thailand’s second-biggest island, Laem Chabang, puts us in reach of dynamic Bangkok, and Ko Kut returns us to the island vibe. We cross to Vietnam at Phu Quoc island, followed by the bright lights of Ho Chi Minh City. In Muara in Brunei, there’s the sight of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, followed by market life and rainforest action at Kota Kinabalu on Borneo. Now to the Philippines and the sandy beaches of Boracay, before hitting the irrepressible capital of this island state, Manila. Yet, we’ve still another of the world’s most exciting cities to see, our final port, Hong Kong.

Itinerary

Day 1

Brisbane, Queensland

Founded in 1824 on the banks of the wide, meandering Brisbane River, the former penal colony of Brisbane was for many years regarded as just a big country town. Many beautiful timber Queenslander homes, built in the 1800s, still dot the riverbanks and inner suburbs, and in spring the city’s numerous parks erupt in a riot of colorful jacaranda, poinciana, and bougainvillea blossoms. Today the Queensland capital is one of Australia’s most up-and-coming cities: glittering high-rises mark its polished business center, slick fashion boutiques and restaurants abound, and numerous outdoor attractions beckon. In summer, temperatures here are broilingly hot and days are often humid, a reminder that this city is part of a subtropical region. Wear SPF 30-plus sunscreen and a broad-brimmed hat outdoors, even on overcast days.Brisbane’s inner suburbs, a 5- to 10-minute drive or 15- to 20-minute walk from the city center, have a mix of intriguing eateries and quiet accommodations. Fortitude Valley combines Chinatown with a cosmopolitan mix of clubs, cafés, and boutiques. Spring Hill has several high-quality hotels, and Paddington, New Farm, Petrie Terrace, West End, and Woolloongabba are full of an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars. Brisbane is also a convenient base for trips to the Sunshine and Gold coasts, the mountainous hinterlands, and the Moreton Bay islands.
