The infectious high spirits of Barcelona create a sunny mood for this cruise around Spain to Portugal, which adds the advantage of a quick hop to North Africa along the way. We head out to sea to the Balearic Island of Mallorca first, calling at Palma, the elegant capital of this favorite destination for beach vacations, before returning to the mainland to Valencia. Find out why this city has a growing reputation for pioneering contemporary architecture and why our next stop, Cartegena, is fast becoming a foodie hotspot. Onwards now to North Africa and the Spanish enclave of Melilla, with its fort and secret tunnels, then Gibraltar, British territory on Iberian soil with lots of visual reminders of the UK. Flop on the beach in Portimão, our next stop, Cadiz in Portugal, before we head northwest to the capital, Lisbon, our final destination.

Modern art museums and chic shops call for attention, too. Barcelona’s vibe stays lively well into the night, when you can linger over regional wine and cuisine at buzzing tapas bars.
