Cruise overview
Set sail for the adventure of a lifetime on our 128-night Grand Odyssey Expedition, an epic journey across history, heritage and human connection for those who will be among the first to sail on our newest yacht, Atlas Adventurer. Trace centuries-old trade routes from Kobe to Cape Town on an unprecedented journey that immerses you in the authentic heart of each destination, from Japan’s ancient castles and sacred shrines, through Southeast Asia’s aromatic spice kingdoms and pristine island archipelagos, to Africa’s dramatic coastlines and exotic wildlife. Atlas Adventurer often lingers in port late into the evening or overnight, allowing time to explore in depth at UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Vietnam’s stunning Ha Long Bay and to witness a rare lunar eclipse over the dazzling skyline of Singapore. The expedition has been thoughtfully crafted to call on some of the most intriguing destinations multiple times, so you might explore the UNESCO-listed Stone Town of Zanzibar on one visit and simply relax on the island’s powdery white beaches when you return. Seize the moment to embark on an extraordinary expedition that will leave you enriched, inspired, and forever changed.
Itinerary
Kobe
Located on the calm waters of the Inland Sea, Kobe has served as an important port town for hundreds of years. It was one of the first harbours to accept foreign traders in 1868 when Japan was just emerging from its centuries of isolation. What followed was a surge of Western trade and exports. Today, Kobe is quite multicultural, with expatriates from 98 different nations in residence, providing a cultural diversity most easily visible in restaurants serving every kind of cuisine, including the now world famous Kobe beef. The Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995 set back Kobe’s development, but not for long. Kobe emerged more vibrant than before – with additional attractions, hotels and urban redevelopment, and only a few remnants of the extensive damage. It is a cosmopolitan place with lively shopping arcades, interesting museums, great restaurants, and a port that is still at the heart of things. Kobe is well known for its nightlife, in an intimate quarter of neon lights, cosy bars and sophisticated nightclubs. It also serves as the gateway to the ancient Japanese capitals of Kyoto and Nara.
