British Virgin Islands Cruises

For many seasoned travellers, the British Virgin Islands are considered the true jewel of the Caribbean. From Tortola’s rolling hillsides and spicy aromas to the copper mines and turquoise waters of Virgin Gorda, the British Virgin Islands, this collection of some 14 inhabited islands is ripe for discovery and perfect for cruisers.

Situated east of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands were first discovered by the Arawak peoples who it is believed first arrived on the islands in 100BC. Christopher Columbus was the first European to explore the British Virgin Islands and originally gave them the rather fanciful name of “Saint Ursula and her 11,000 Virgins”.

Most cruise ships that visit the British Virgin Islands call at Tortola. Sun-kissed and scenically stunning, Tortola is an excellent choice if you’re looking for great beaches, restaurants and some fascinating historical architecture.

The other most popular port of call in the British Virgin Islands is Virgin Gorda. Smaller than Tortola – but no less thrilling, Virgin Gorda offers cruisers the opportunity to explore dramatic emerald green peaks, serene harbours and ancient forts.

Cruise lines that visit the British Virgin Islands include Oceania Cruises, Cunard and Seabourn Cruises.
