Why choose a cruise that visits Korea?

Korea is a fantastic stop-off on any cruise itinerary and offers a great blend of new and old world features. Here are a few reasons why you should choose a cruise that visits Korea:

1) There's so much to see! From ultra-modern cities and architecture to bustling local markets and tranquil temples, it's easy to understand why Korea's popularity among tourists is continually on the rise. A cruise holiday presents an excellent way of experiencing Korea's many treasures in a short space of time.

2) The food is incredible! Most people know about Kimchi, but Korea's culinary skills go far beyond this tasty dish of salt-fermented vegetables. Head to nearly any street market, and you'll discover a world of mouth-watering noodle dishes, soups and meat dishes.

3) It's fantastic for shopping! Korea's main cities are brimming with fashion retailers and designer boutiques. In particular, Myeong-dong in Seoul is an absolute must for cosmetics and luxury brands. One of the best things about shopping in Korea is that you can often find high-end goods in Korea a LOT cheaper than they'd typically be in Europe so make sure you get enough bags to carry it all back to the ship!

Popular Ports of Call in Korea:

Due to the interest in the country, Korea is becoming a more and more frequent place to stop on Far East cruise itineraries. Here are a few of the more common ports you're likely to visit:

Incheon (Seoul): The port of Incheon is just an hour outside Seoul, Korea's capital city and financial centre. The port has been in operation since the late 1880s and has flourished due to the trade routes to China and the rest of the world. In Seoul, the ultra-modern and high-tech exist side-by-side with the ancient and traditional, making it a must-see city.

Busan: Korea's second largest city, Busan's modernity contrasts nicely with many old world features, such as the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and the Geumjeong Fortress, an 18th Century mountain fortress built in response to the Japanese invasion of 1592 and the Manchu invasions in 1627 and 1637. If visiting Busan, we would suggest a visit to The United Nations Cemetery, which is the only UN memorial park in the world, and the Shinsegae Centum City; a huge department store which is ideal for a spot of retail therapy.

Jeju: The island of Jeju was created as a result of five massive volcanic eruptions over one million years ago. These eruptions left a stunning landscape and natural formations that has seen 10% of Jeju listed as a UNESCO Natural Heritage site.
