My time on the new Silversea ship – Silver Ray Ship Review May 2025

May 22, 2025  |  Share:

From the moment I stepped on board Silver Ray, I could tell this ship was something special.

The atmosphere felt more modern and sophisticated. The design is sleek and elegant, and the layout feels wider and longer, creating an immediate sense of space and calm.

One venue that really stood out was the redesigned Arts Café. It’s now more central, acting as a kind of informal hub during the day. It feels like a proper hotel coffee bar, stylish but welcoming and the coffee was excellent. I found myself returning more than once just to sit, read, and watch the world go by.

I really like the Venetian Lounge, which spans two tiers. The design creates a grand yet inviting atmosphere, with a thoughtful mix of seating, plush armchairs, cosy sofas, and classic theatre-style rows catering to every kind of guest. Small, stylish tables are perfectly placed throughout, making it easy to set down a drink and relax while enjoying the entertainment.

Another highlight was The Shelter, a new addition on Silver Ray and Silver Nova. It’s a small, intimate champagne bar, ideal for pre-dinner drinks or even a private gathering (it can be reserved if you’re travelling with friends or family). The light here is something else, oversized windows let the outside in, which seems to be a recurring theme onboard.

In fact, light is central to the design of Silver Ray. Even the lifts have ocean views. Every lounge, every restaurant, every corner seems to be framed by a window and the effect is transformative. Everything feels more open, more connected to the sea.

A Suite Stay to Remember

Silversea has always delivered when it comes to accommodation. I was in a Premium Veranda Suite, and it exceeded all expectations. The space was generous, the layout thoughtful, and the bathroom with its double vanity and large walk-in shower was nothing short of stunning.

One quirky little detail I loved? A hidden laundry bin. It sounds minor, but it’s one of those touches that shows just how much thought has gone into the design.

There’s plenty of storage (all tucked away neatly), and the bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable I’ve experienced at sea. I was only aboard for three nights, but I could’ve happily stayed longer.

We also had a look around some of the higher suite categories. The Medallion Suite really impressed me with its spacious lounge area, perfect if you’re the kind of cruiser who likes to entertain. The Silver Suite was even more expansive, with a proper sense of retreat and luxury.

Dining That Delights

Silver Ray Food

Night One: The Marquee

We kicked things off at The Marquee, an open-air venue unique to Silversea’s Nova Class ships. It blends Hot Rocks and Spaccanapoli into one laid-back, scenic dining spot. I went for the filet mignon cooked on the rock, with prawns on the side. We had a beautiful sunset, then the lighting changed, casting the whole venue in a warm, lilac glow. Magical.

Night Two: S.A.L.T. Kitchen

S.A.L.T. has become a real favourite of mine, and this meal cemented that. I had the bouillabaisse, a dish I’d tried cooking in the S.A.L.T. Lab on Silver Dawn a few years ago. The duck that followed was equally impressive, rich, tender, and full of flavour.

Night Three: Silver Note

On our final night, we dined in Silver Note, small plates, live music, and an atmosphere that felt somewhere between a jazz bar and a supper club. Highlights included the caviar, tenderloin, lobster (possibly the best I’ve had at sea), and a decadent dessert called the Black Swan. Every bite was spot on.

Lunches were equally enjoyable. We returned to The Marquee twice, Silversea remains the BEST for pizza at sea – and again for a classic chicken Caesar. On the last afternoon, we visited Kaiseki. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and the bao buns were a real standout, soft, flavourful, and paired nicely with an ice-cold Japanese beer.

Final Thoughts

I could probably write an entire post just about the food alone; it really was that good. If you’re into your cuisine, or just curious about what makes Silversea’s culinary offering so special, feel free to get in touch. I’d be happy to share more.

In just three nights, Silver Ray left a lasting impression. It’s smart, stylish, and wonderfully well thought out. Whether you’re new to Silversea or have sailed with them before, this ship feels like a new chapter and one well worth exploring.
