Around Spitsbergen Cruise
|2||14th July Glacier|
MV Ortelius has been in service as an expedition ship since the late 1980s. Named after Abraham Ortelius, who published the world's first modern atlas, MV Ortelius offers a capacity of just 116 guests and is an A1 Ice Class ship, meaning she is the perfect vessel for navigating the icy waters of the Polar Regions.
Life onboard MV Ortelius
MV Ortelius is a comfortable expedition ship with hotel-style facilities and amenities. She offers a bar, a lecture room and two dining venues in which you can enjoy freshly prepared cuisine, much of which is created using locally sourced ingredients.
MV Ortelius's accommodation options span six categories ranging from Quadruple Porthole cabins to spacious Superior Cabins. All of the cabins have outside views by either porthole or window and are equipped with private shower/toilets, a writing desk and storage space.
It should be noted that guests aboard MV Ortelius are encouraged to spend as much time exploring on land as possible - so that every experience is not wasted. While she may lack the entertainment options of larger vessels, she offers the perfect haven for relaxing after a busy day ashore.
MV Ortelius Itineraries
MV Ortelius operates primarily in the Antarctic Peninsula, the Falkland Islands and South Georgia for Oceanwide Expeditions. These voyages are available to experience throughout the winter months, from late November to mid-February.
The highlight of MV Ortelius's Antarctic schedule are her voyages in the spectacular Ross Sea. These immersive sailings boast itineraries that are packed full of opportunities to explore the southern Antarctic Peninsula, including the seldom-visited Peter I Island, The Dry Valleys and the fringes of the pack ice in the Amundsen Sea.
Conditions permitting, guests may also have the chance to walk on the Ross Ice Shelf following a helicopter landing.
